Indonesia

Sudarso was born in 1914 in Purwokerto, Indonesia and died in 2006.

During the Dutch occupation, Sudarso like all Indonesian children were denied basic education.

Sudarso was destined to serve as labourer or delivery boy.

Fortunately, one of his deliveries of milk and eggs was to Affandi. Sudarso would sit for hours watching Affandi paint and later became his student.

Sudarso choose simple village women as his subjects. He found such amazing intensity in them. He was most noted for his rendition of hands and feet.
