Gloria Petyarre was born in 1945 at Atnangkere Soakage in the Utopia region. She won Australia’s longest running art prize, the Wynne Prize in 1999. She travelled to Ireland, England and India in 1990 as part of the Utopia – A picture story exhibition.
She held her first solo exhibition in 1991. She is the niece of successful Aboriginal artist Emily Kngwarreye.
Gloria Petyarre’s paintings are represented in the permanent collections as National Gallery of Australia, Canberra; Art Gallery of NSW, Sydney; Art Gallery of South Australia, Adelaide; National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne; Art Gallery of Queensland, Brisbane; Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery and Levi Collection in Seattle, USA.
