TAN SWIE HIAN

Born 1943, graduated from the Department of Modern Languages and Literature, Nanyang University. He has held solo exhibitions in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Taipei, Tahiti, Parthenay and Paris. In 1979 he was conferred with the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by France as a mark of recognition of his literary and artistic achievements. An artist who uses various media and employs both Asian and European techniques with equal ease, Swie Hian's style is an embodiment of what he strongly believes: the prerequisite for creation is the freeing of one's mind.
